"To be able to help folks with the basic necessities...reminds me of who we are in the family of God," says Bob Palak from Ohio. He is one of the hundreds of volunteers from across America donating time, money and hard work to build Mexico's poor a good home.
Each summer, families, teens, and people of all ages use their vacation time to travel to Juarez to sweat, laugh, and worship together. They form teams and build several simple houses within a week's time. But building homes is not the only purpose of this mission. "The primary function of coming on this mission experience is to build up people," says Ted Berry, a mission veteran.
John and Sue Gadsby of Mason, Ohio, founders of "People Building People", believe this to be "a life changing experience, to redirect your life toward servant hood".
"If we are christians and we have the love of Christ in our hearts," says Pastor Chuey of Juarez, "then we have to show it with actions,
and I think that's what this ministry is, showing Jesus Christ through action."
Volunteer Christie Barnes reflects, "If you ever had a question of God's work, God's word, and what He's capable of doing through you, you need to come to Mexico."
