Carl Hiner sees himself as a 'ragamuffin'. "It just means that I need God in my life. Without God, I don't do very well. but with God, I can do anything"
It's amazing what Carl does with old windows and doors, many of them battered by years of weathering and constant use. He frames his original photographs with them, creating unique works of art.
"I try to preserve the integrity of the window but show all of the age and the character that it has from the wear and tear and the coats of paint over the years."
Hiner sees a parable of his own life as he restores these old pieces, many of them rescued from the trash. "In my life, I've been beaten up, dirty and discarded, and God has resurrected me from the dumpster, didn't strip me down to a different color, didn't paint me, just the same Carl, just the way I am, like the old windows, it's the same person, just reborn."
Hiner invites people to his home gallery several times a year and displays his work at area art shows. He's also been commissioned to do special pieces that now hang in some of Greater Cincinnati's most prestigious homes.
